In this conversation we will first talk about the main authors of critical theory and the main influences on the thought of Hartmut Rosa. We will start to reflect about what is “modernity” in the context of this critical theory literature. Next, we will approach the author’s concept of “Beschleunigung” as a product of modern life, which he describes for instance in his book “Social Acceleration: A New Theory of Modernity”. Following this presentation, we will explore the connections that this concept has in the context of the degrowth movement. In the end, we will talk about the possible criticisms and problems of Hartmut Rosa’s thinking.
