Our conversation will begin with the question “what is the good life?” the classic ethical question of ancient Greek philosophy. Following the exposition of the main philosophical schools of Greek antiquity, we will approach the historical context of Epicurus and his philosophy. We will explore possible links between Epicurean hedonism and other forms of life such as “buen vivir”, bohemian “joie de vivre”, or “voluntary simplicity”, as well as other contemporary counter-culture movements. In the end, we will ask what kind of teachings Epicureanism can transmit to us for life in the 21st century in the context of the climate crisis.
